Heat Edges past Baton Rouge
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (10 - 2 - 3, 15 GP / 33 points) scored the only goal of the game in the 85th minute when Mid-Fielder Steve Su found fast moving Felix Garcia from the right side of the pitch.
The Heat defense held tough all night as the Baton Rouge club threw everything at Laredo during the entire game, especially after score. The last six minutes of the match were especially stressful for the Heat due to the Capitals attacking from all sides while trying to equalize the game late in the match.
After heading to the locker rooms tied at zero, the Heat's head man, Collazo, took advantage of all six substitutions allowed by league rules in order to allow some of the bench players some playing time now that the regular season outcome for the Heat is no longer in question and in hopes that the playing time will come in handy for next weeks USL PDL Southern Conference Championship Tournament in Laredo.
The Heat will be leaving Baton Rouge this evening and will travel northeast to Jackson, Mississippi for their match-up versus the Brilla. Jackson is only a short two hour drive from Baton Rouge.
The Brilla will be coming all out tomorrow versus the Heat since their playoffs lives will be determined Saturday evening. A loss against the Heat and they are out. A win and the possibility of the expansion Brilla making the playoffs will become more of a reality if the El Paso Patriots lose at home when they host the New Orleans Shell Shockers and the DFW Tornados win in Austin.
