Heat drop Heartbreaker in El Paso
Saturday, June 23, 2007 (Laredo, TX):
In a Mid-South “Classic”, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (5 – 2 – 3, 10 GP / 18 Points) and the El Paso Patriots (6 – 3 – 2, 11 GP / 20 Points) played a game that was worth the price of admission.
The Patriots Omar Mora scored in the 23rd minute off a defensive mistake by Heat and that score held until the final whistle due to some very good defense by the Patriots combined by some shots missed by the Heat.
The Heat had several scoring opportunities get away from them, namely in the 42nd minute when Mid-Fielder Juan de Dios Ibarra shot went left of the goal.
In the second half, Heat Forward Hector Vallejo had a golden opportunity to tie up the score in the 76th minute but his point blank shot went just right of the Patriot Keeper.
The second half saw offensive changes made by Collazo in order to out pressure on the Patriots. To start the second half, Josh Fender entered the game for Steve Su. Then in the 72nd minute, the speedy Silas Blackwell was inserted to replace Raul Quinones. In a last ditch effort, Collazo substituted Jacob Almack with Forward Jimmy Flores in the 88th minute.
All the second half subs made the game very interesting for the visiting side; however, it was not meant to be for the Laredo Club. Center Referee, Carlos Salas, gave four additional minutes of injury time that made the end of game very exciting.
The Heat have an off week planned this coming week that should come in very helpful to all the players.
