Heat Announce Player Acquisition, Taking on New Orleans this Weekend
Thursday May 4, 2006 (Laredo, TX):
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club is pleased to announce the signing of forward Hector "Gota" Vallejo to its 2006 roster.
Vallejo played with the Heat last season and was instrumental in leading the Heat into the Premier Development League playoffs in the team's inaugural campaign. Head Coach Israel Collazo said of the signing, "Personally, I'm very excited that Hector is coming back." Collazo added, "And I am also happy to have an experienced striker like Hector for our offensive attack this season." Collazo concluded, "This player brings a different dynamic to the team that was not present for the first two games versus the Tigres and Austin that will open up our attack for the rest of the season."
Also this week, the Heat will be taking on the New Orleans Shell Shockers on Saturday, May 6th at the Student Activity Complex located at Highway 359 and Loop 20.
This game versus the Shell Shockers will be the Heat's second PDL game of the season and the opening league game for the team from New Orleans. Heat COO and General Manager, J.J. Vela, said "The game this weekend versus New Orleans will be a good barometer for Coach Collazo and our team because New Orleans Coach Kenny Ferrell and the entire Shell Shocker organization have dedicated plenty of time, resources and energy into making this season successful for their community still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Katrina." Vela concluded, "Last season, we had a successful match versus New Orleans here in Laredo; however, our visit to New Orleans was less than desirable as we dropped both games in the Crescent City."
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club will be practicing this week at United Day School, located across Doctors Hospital, on both Thursday and Friday from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
