Heat to Host the New Orleans Shell Shockers
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (3-1-0) takes on the visiting New Orleans Shell Shockers (1-2-0) on Wednesday, May 25th at the Student Activity Complex located off Highway 359 and Loop 20. The game is a U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Match for both teams. Game time is slated for 8:00 PM.
The Heat is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to the current Mid-South Division leader El Paso Patriots on Saturday night.
The Shell Shockers were the 2003 Mid-South Division Champions and that year they posted the league's best record of 16-2-0. Last season, the Shell Shockers had a disappointing campaign with a 5-12-1 record. One victory last year for the Shell Shockers was a win in New Orleans over the provisional Laredo Heat Soccer Club by a score of 2-1. The Shell Shockers are coached by former Irish Premier League player Kenny Farrell.
Heat Head Coach E.J. Jepsen is looking forward to this game and seeing the mental toughness of his team. Jepsen said, "It was a physical game Saturday night and it was a tough loss for the team; however, I'm looking forward to seeing how the players react Wednesday night".
The next few days are the start of a tough stretch of games for the Heat. Right after playing the New Orleans Shell Shockers, the Heat will be leaving the friendly confines of the Student Activity Complex and heading to El Paso to once again take on the Patriots in back to back games on Friday and Saturday. Friday's match in El Paso versus the Patriots will be the last Open Cup Qualifying Match for the Heat and Patriots.
During halftime of Wednesday's match, the Laredo Heat organization will honor our Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League for a successful 2004/2005 Season. Several Laredo Bucks players will be present at the game and will be honored by the Heat during Bucks Appreciation Night.
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club reminds all soccer and sports fans that tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate for as low as $6.00 for General Admission and that all children 12 and under who wear red and come with an adult can enter for free for this and all future Heat games.
