Heat to play Wednesday May 11

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club returns to action this week to host a mid-week Friendly Match versus the United States U-17 Men’s National Team on Wednesday, May 11th at 8:00PM at the Student Activity Complex located on Highway 359 and Loop 20.

The Laredo Heat is coming off an impressive 1 – 0 road victory over the DFW Tornados, last year’s Mid-South Division Runner Up. The Heat’s Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez scored off a feed from Juan de Dios Ibarra in the 88th minute of the match to seal the victory. Heat Head Coach E.J. Jepsen said, “The team played tough and very intelligently plus their discipline and patience paid off in the end”. Jepsen added, “I am very proud of all the players and the professionalism they have demonstrated”.

The Heat currently stands tied for 1st place with defending 2004 Mid-South Division Champion El Paso Patriots. Both teams have accumulated 6 points with victories over their 1st two opponents in the 2005 Premier Development League Season.

Heat owner Shashi Vaswani is excited about this week’s game against a U.S. National Team. Vaswani mentioned, “The team coming this week to Laredo marks the first time that any national team is coming to Laredo.” Additionally, Vaswani said, “What is exciting for our community is that many of these players coming to Laredo with the National Team are future MLS or European players and what a better way for our own Heat players to showcase their talents than with players that live and breath soccer on a daily basis.” Vaswani concluded, “I hope all soccer and sports fans can make it to the Student Activity Complex as I know that the Heat players are looking forward to this match and will give it their best to show Laredo a great soccer game.”

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate for as low as $6.00 for General Admission and all children 12 and under that wear red that come with an adult can come in for free for this and all future Heat games.
