Monterrey Tigres visiting Laredo

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club returns to action this Saturday, July 9th, in an International Friendly Match versus the "Reserva Especial" (Special Reserve Team) of the Monterrey Tigres. A Special Reserve Team in the Mexican Soccer Federation is comprised of players that are ready to move up from their respective Second Division Team due to age restrictions or playing level and players that have "Primera A" (First Division) playing experience that are being looked at for future development and have not been able to see playing time on the field. Many of these players on the Special Reserve Team will possibly be considered to move up to the top professional team in the organization in the near future. Game Time is scheduled for 8:00 PM at the Student Activity Center located at Highway 359 and Loop 20.

The Heat will be using this game versus the Monterrey Tigres as a tune up game before they return to PDL action for their final three games of the season and the possibility of getting into the playoffs starting next weekend versus the Austin Lightning here in Laredo.

The Laredo Heat looked very good last week in its other International Friendly Match versus the Second Division Chivas de Guadalajara by winning decisively 3 to zero and has had two excellent weeks of practice under the direction of new Head Coach, Israel Collazo. Additionally, players with injuries have had time to heal and the team has had the opportunity to reorganize itself and focus on the goal at hand.

Laredo Heat Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, J.J. Vela said, "The team holds its playoff destiny in its hands. We are currently in third place in our division behind Austin and we only trail them by two points and we both have three league games left to play." Vela added, "The players know they have to win our last three games to accumulate nine points and this includes beating Austin in Laredo next weekend." Vela concluded, "The math is easy, we win three games and get nine points and Austin wins two games and gets 6 points and we end up in second place ahead of Austin by one point and head into the playoffs. We cannot afford any losses or ties at this juncture of the season if we wish to continue into the post season."

Tickets for this game and all Heat home games can be purchased at the Student Activity Complex Ticket Window located on the northwest part of the stadium on game days starting at 6:30PM. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adults and all fans 12 years and under that wear red shirts receive free admission when accompanied by an adult.

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club will be practicing from 6:00 PM until dusk on Thursday, July 7th and from 7:00 PM until dusk on Friday, July 8th at United Day School located across Doctors Hospital at San Isidro Parkway and McPherson Blvd.
