Heat Set to Host New Orleans on Saturday
Friday, June 8, 2007 (Laredo, TX):
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (4 – 1 – 3 / 15 Points) gets back into Premier Development League (PDL) action this weekend when they host the visiting New Orleans Shell Shockers (2 – 1 – 3 / 9 Points) at the Student Activity Complex, located at the corner of Highway 359 and Loop 20, on Saturday, June 9, 2007. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.
The Heat hosted Club America USA on Wednesday, June 6th and took the opportunity to play many of the back-up and reserve players. The Heat beat Club America USA by a score of 3 – 1 in the inaugural game for the Houston based organization.
“We are halfway through our PDL season and currently sit on top of our division” said Heat Head Coach Israel Collazo. The Heat’s head man also mentioned, “It has not been as easy as it was last year; however, the players and my coaching staff know what we have to do to remain on top so we can make the playoffs and then make noise in the PDL playoffs”. Collazo concluded, “At this point of the season and from what I have seen in the Mid-South Division, every game is going to count and every point won will be essential in the standings and every point lost will come back to haunt not only my club but the other teams in the division. It’s going to a fight until the end for all seven clubs”.
Saturday’s game versus the Shell Shockers will also be the Heat’s annual Make-A-Wish Night. During halftime, the Heat will honor local Make-A-Wish (wish) Child Jesus Mireles.
On Saturday morning, June 9th, from 9:00 AM to 12 noon, the Laredo Heat organization will be at the corner of Del Mar Blvd. and McPherson conducting a team sticker drive in order to raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Jesus’ wish. Jesus is a former Alexander High School student and his wish is to have a clothing and electronic shopping spree. Jesus has been diagnosed with End Stage Renal disease and is currently in San Antonio on a weekly basis undergoing dialysis.
In reference to the sticker drive, all the Heat organization asks is that motorist place a Heat sticker on their vehicles in order to participate. No money will need to be donated in exchange for the sticker and a total of 5,000 stickers placed on cars will represent fulfillment of Jesus’ wish.
