Laredo Heat Soccer Club Announces Game Honoring LBJ & United H.S.
Monday April 24, 2006 (Laredo, TX):
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club has announced that they will honor the LBJ and United High School Varsity Soccer Teams at halftime during their inaugural PDL game on April 29th versus the Austin Lightning. Additionally, Coach of the Year, Mario Gonzalez from United High School and 29-5A All District MVP, Rudy Ramos from Martin High School will be honored at this ceremony.
The Heat will open the 2006 PDL Season hosting the Austin Lightning at the Student Activity Complex (SAC), located at Loop 20 and Highway 359. All children under 12 years old that wear a red get in free to all Heat games and adults pay only $5.00 at the gate. All Heat soccer games are scheduled to start at 8:00 PM.
The first time District Champs, the United High School Longhorns Varsity Soccer Team, led by first year coach and Coach of the Year Mario Gonzalez, will be honored for their tremendous success in the district. United High School never stopped fighting and at the end they became the new District 29 - 5A Champs. LBJ High School will also be honored at halftime. LBJ also had a year to remember, as they fought United all the way until the end of the season.
Mario Gonzalez is a former member of the Laredo Heat Coaching Staff and he contributed to the team's success in the PDL. He is former assistant coach at TAMIU and United High School Longhorn graduate (Class of 1995),
The Laredo Heat SC will also honor Martin High School standout Rudy Ramos for being selected the ALL- District Soccer MVP for the 2006 soccer season.
Heat Owner and CEO, Shashi Vaswani, mentioned, "This is great for the sport of soccer and we need to recognize these kids that leave their hearts on the field". Shashi Vaswani added, "There are a lot of people in Laredo that love the game of soccer and they should demonstrate their support by coming out to the games and enjoy the game the love so much"
