Heat Blanks DFW

On Friday, the Heat tied the Lightning in Austin and gained a point for their effort. Today in Bedford, Texas, outside of Dallas, Hector “Gota” Vallejo scored twice in the second half and the Laredo defense once again did their part by holding the Tornados scoreless. The Heat beat the DFW club 2 - 0 and in the process, gained a share of first place in the Mid-South Division with the El Paso Patriots.

Vallejo first strike came in the 61st minute when he received a well timed pass from LBJ standout Felix Garcia. Once Vallejo got a hold of the ball, he knew exactly what to do and one timed a shot into the back of the net.

Vallejo was not finished with that score. In the 83rd minute, Vallejo picked up a loose ball that deflected off a Tornado defender and took the shot that went pass the DFW goalkeeper. Vallejo's second goal iced the victory for the Heat and once again, the Heat defense held the Tornados in check to seal the victory.

For the Heat, only defender Mark Vega was cautioned with a yellow card in the second half.

The Heat left Dallas after the game and headed back to Laredo. They will be given Memorial Day off and will be back to practice on Tuesday, May 29th at United Day School as they will prepare to once again meet the DFW Tornados in back to back games in the Gateway City on Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June 2nd. Both games will be played at the Student Activity Complex and kick-off is slated for 8:00 PM for both games.
