Match Preview: Heat Hosting DFW; Two Games Set for Friday and Saturday

Thursday, May 31, 2007 (Laredo, TX):

When the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (3 – 1 – 2 / 11 Points) and the DFW Tornados (2 – 2 – 1 / 7 Points) finish their second game this weekend on Saturday night, they will have completed 270 minutes (three games) of soccer in a seven day span. The Heat blanked DFW by a score of 2 – 0 on Sunday, May 27th in Dallas and this weekend, the Tornados will be visiting the Gateway City for two games that are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Both games are scheduled to kick-off at 8:00 PM at the Student Activity Complex, located at the corner of Highway 359 and Loop 20. As always, admission to all Heat games is only $6.00 and kids 12 and under get in free.

Heat General Manager, J.J. Vela, said, “Though we beat DFW last week, they are a very talented team. They have excellent soccer skills and are very well coached”. Vela continued, “Prior to playing us on Sunday, the Tornados played the El Paso Patriots on Friday evening for the Mid-South Division spot in the U.S. Open Cup and they gave the Patriots all they could handle. The game ended in a 2 – 2 tie”. Vela added, “The Dallas area always produces great soccer players, our own Mark Vega is from that part of the state”. Vela concluded, “DFW is always a tough draw for us because of their style of play and last season, it was DFW that handed us our first loss of the season. We cannot forget that this year”.

Currently, the Laredo Heat sits on top of the Mid-South Division with the El Paso Patriots. Both teams have 11 points at the end of May; however, the Patriots have already played eight games and have a record of 3 – 3 – 2. With the Patriots being idle this weekend, two wins over the Tornados would be great for the Heat and would give them much needed breathing room in the tight Mid-South Division.

In other division news, U.S. Soccer announced the U.S. Open Cup match-ups on Wednesday, May 30th and the El Paso Patriots learned that will be hosting USL-1 Division club Miami FC on Tuesday, June 12th in El Paso.
