Laredo Heat Tryouts slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday

February 22, 2006, (Laredo, TX):

For the Laredo Heat Soccer Club, things will begin to "heat" up for the upcoming 2006 Premier Development League Season (PDL).

This weekend, from Friday, February 24th to Sunday, February 26th, the Heat will be conducting their annual tryouts in their search for talent to fill their 2006 roster.

On Friday the 24th, the Heat will be at the Laredo Job Corp soccer field from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday and Sunday, the coaching staff will be evaluating talent at United Day School from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM both days.

Heat Owner and CEO, Shashi Vaswani, said, "After a successful 2005 campaign, Coach Collazo and his staff will be looking for players to compliment some of the players that have already reported to camp within the last couple of weeks". Vaswani added, "For the first time in our short history, we have several players coming in from out of town, out of state and from other countries this weekend that are interested in playing for us due to our success last season and because they have found out how they will be treated in Laredo by the Heat fans, the media and the Heat administration." Vaswani concluded, "We are all looking forward to seeing the talent coming in for this invitation only tryout because of the resumes and recommendations we received regarding these players are impressive."

Among the players coming in from out of town are Jesse Roque, a player from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK and a member of the Puerto Rican U-20 National Team, Michelot Beauvais, originally from Haiti and now a naturalized U.S. Citizen from Florida who played for Florida State University and Aldo Anaya, a young player from Mexico City who has the experience and talent to have been a member last year of Club Atlante FC in Mexico's First Division.

Along with the out of town talent coming in, the tryouts will also have plenty of local flavor with players from Laredo, Nuevo Laredo and TAMIU. Heat General Manager, J.J. Vela, stated, "We are expecting between 50 and 75 soccer players this weekend and with the leagues rules and regulations regarding foreign players and players over the age of 23, it will be a tough task for Coach Collazo and his staff to evaluate and keep all the players they want." Vela also mentioned, "What we'll see this weekend is that some of the players that have played for us before when they were under the age of 23 and now are 23 and over, might not make the team which makes our jobs just that much tougher."
