U.S. Under 20 Men’s National Team Update: The Laredo Connection
Friday, February 1, 2008 (Laredo, TX):
The United States Under 20 Men’s National Team ended their trip to Guadalajara with a 2 – 0 win over Santos (Mexico) on Wednesday, January 30th but even with the win, the U.S. club was not able to secure a tournament playoff spot in the 2008 edition of Copa Chivas.
Even though the team did not make it into the playoffs, Laredo’s very own Felix Garcia had an exceptional tournament. Garcia’s exploits in Guadalajara included being the goal leader for U.S National Team with a total of three goals in five games.
U.S. Under 20 MNT Head Coach Thomas Rongen had this to say about Garcia, “Felix did well for us in Mexico during the Copa Chivas, and scored some important goals for us when we needed them. I am happy we were able to bring him and see him play well in this environment, and we look forward to seeing more of Felix and working with him in the future”.
Felix is currently a junior at LBJ High School and plays soccer at the school under Head Coach Eddie Silva. Garcia also played with the Laredo Heat Soccer Club this past summer and scored the game winning goal on a penalty shot that gave the Heat the 2007 Premier Development League Championship.
