Heat Beats El Paso


EL PASO - The fifth time's a charm for the Laredo Heat against the El Paso Patriots.

The Heat (4-0, 12 points) finally defeated the El Paso Patriots (2-1, 6 points) 3-2 late Saturday at Patriot Stadium. El Paso had beaten the Heat four previous times.

Laredo overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit and scored two unanswered goals to keep sole possession of first place in the Mid-South Division.

Ryan Harrison in his return to the line-up assisted Steve Su in the 9 minute to take a 1-0 lead.

El Paso responded with goals by Anuar Gomez and Julio Frias before the break.

Daniel Galvan evened up the score in the 53 minute on an assist by Hector "La Gota" Vallejo.

Vallejo then manufactured the Heat's winning goal in the 75 minute, speeding past defenders from midfield.

Laredo hosts La Reserva Especial de las Chivas de Guadalajara on Wednesday at the Student Activity Complex.

The Match was a qualifier for the Open Cup tournament; Laredo is now 3-0 in qualifiers.
