Heat Heading to El Paso

Monday, May 15, 2006 (Laredo, TX):

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club will be traveling to El Paso this coming weekend and leaving the friendly confines of the Student Activity Complex (SAC) for their first away Premier Development League (PDL) game of the season. The Heat have been perfect in league play this season at home by posting wins versus the Austin Lightning (4-3), the New Orleans Shell Shockers (4-2) and the DFW Tornados (3-0). Additionally, the Heat also posted a win versus the Tigres de Monterrey Reserve Squad by a count of 1 - 0 to open up their 2006 campaign on Thursday, April 20th.

When asked about the upcoming match scheduled for Saturday, May 20th versus the defending Southern Conference Champion and PDL Championship Runner-Up El Paso Patriots, Heat Head Coach, Israel Collazo, said, "As a team, we are looking forward to the game versus the Patriots and the challenges it will present." Collazo added, "El Paso is still our conference champion and will remain the champion until they are defeated." Collazo concluded, "This is a different Heat team heading to El Paso this year and we expect different results from when we play not only El Paso but all of the other division and conference rivals."

The Heat and Patriots met four times last year, three times during the regular season and the last time in the Southern Conference Championship Game. El Paso had the upper hand in all four contests against Laredo in the Heat's first full season in the PDL.

Heat COO and General Manager, J.J. Vela, mentioned, "Over this past weekend, the Patriots picked up six points with two victories over New Orleans in El Paso and Austin picked three points and the victory over the DFW Tornados on Friday and we are currently sitting in first place in the Mid-South with nine points in virtue of playing and having won our first three contest; however, that's only on paper now and in the past." Vela concluded, "After our game this weekend in El Paso, we will have had the opportunity to play all four teams in our division and we will really have a true gauge of what we have accomplished so far in this young PDL season and most importantly, what we need to continue to work on to fulfill our ultimate goal of not only getting into the PDL playoffs but doing well in the playoffs."

The game on Saturday, May 20th versus the El Paso Patriots is scheduled for 7:30 PM MST (8:30 PM CST) at Patriot Stadium in El Paso, Texas.
