Match Preview: Heat in Dallas for Crucial

Mid-South Division Match

Friday, July 6, 2007 (Laredo, TX):

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (5 – 2 – 3, 10 GP / 18 points) is traveling to the Dallas / Ft. Worth Metroplex this weekend to take on the DFW Tornados (5 – 5 – 3, 13 GP / 18 points) in a crucial divisional match-up. Game time is slated for 7:30 PM on Saturday, July 7th at Pennington Field in Bedford, TX. Both teams are currently sitting in 3rd Place in the Mid-South Division behind division leader Mississippi Brilla (6 – 5 – 3, 14 GP / 21 points) and the second place El Paso Patriots (6 – 4 – 2, 12 GP / 20 points).

The Heat last played two weeks ago in El Paso where they lost to the Patriots 1 – 0 and gave up their division lead to their border counterparts. Meanwhile, the DFW Tornados are coming into Saturday’s game riding a three game winning streak that started on June 17th and on June 15th; they tied the Baton Rouge Capitals. The DFW club last lost a game on June 9th.

“To say that the Tornados have made up some ground over the last month would be an understatement”, said Heat General Manager, J.J. Vela.

Vela continued, “The fact that we are tied with them for 3rd place has not gone un-noticed by our Head Coach. Collazo actually brought this fact up to the team on Thursday night when he announced to them which players were heading to Dallas for the weekend”. Vela concluded, “Collazo also reiterated to all the members of the team the 2007 season was ours to take if they so desired because we had six games left to play; however, that each of them had to have the commitment and attitude to make it happen because no one was going to give us a free pass”.

Mid-South Division Weekly Recap:

The expansion Mississippi Brilla took over 1st place in the division with a victory over the Nashville Metros on July 4th.
