Heat Conclude Invitation Only Tryouts
March 2, 2006, (Laredo, TX):
In what started on a cold and rainy evening on Friday, February 24th, concluded Sunday the 26th under sunny skies and hopeful optimism for the Laredo Heat Soccer Club.
The Heat finished an exhaustive three day talent search that included a total of 38 soccer players, many of whom traveled to the Gateway City from across the United States, Texas and Mexico, with hopes of joining the 2005 Southern Conference Runner-Up's this upcoming season.
Heat Head Coach, Israel Collazo, was pleased with the turnout and was happy with the results and players he observed and felt could join the team this year. Collazo said, "Of the 38 players that attended, two to three will challenge some of the returning players for playing time and possible starting positions and one or two will make the team and provide talent coming off the bench." Collazo concluded, "From the lot of players we had this weekend, I figured to find three to five players that could make the team stronger this season."
The tryout sessions concluded on Sunday afternoon with Coach Collazo being able to mix and match returning players with the tryout attendees.
Heat General Manager, J.J. Vela, said, "With training camp opening next Monday, March 6th, Coach Collazo and his staff will have ample time to look at all possible angles and lineups to find a perfect combination of young talent and veteran leadership." Vela also mentioned, "With the athletes I saw this weekend and with the players that we have coming to visit us in March to tryout because of current university obligations, I feel very confident that Coach Collazo will field a strong and competitive team this season."
