Dakota Wesleyan University signs Heat Player


Wednesday, April 6, 2005, (Laredo, TX):

On Tuesday, April 5, 2005, Vaswani Soccer Ventures, LLC announced the signing of Laredo Heat SC Reserve Team player Chris Martinez, 19 years of age, to a full athletic scholarship with Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Attending the signing ceremony along with Chris were Dakota Wesleyan University Associate Head Men's Soccer Coach Kevin Farley, Laredo Heat SC Head Coach E.J. Jepsen, Laredo Heat SC Chief Operating Officer J.J. Vela and Heat SC Owner and Chief Executive Officer Shashi Vaswani.
Martinez, a local soccer player and product of Alexander High School was recruited as a goalkeeper plus according to Coach Farley, "will be given an opportunity to showcase his athletic talent in track and field as well". Chris said, "Both my family and myself are very happy and excited of being given this opportunity by Dakota Wesleyan University to grow not only as a soccer player but as a person". Additionally, Martinez mentioned, "I am very thankful to Coach Jepsen and Heat organization for this opportunity and I promise to make my friends, family and the City of Laredo proud and I will not let anyone down".
Coach Farley, who was invited to visit Laredo by Coach Jepsen, added, "I am always looking for talent around the country and the relationship that Coach Jepsen and I have has led me to Laredo." Farley also added, "Kids in South Texas have the talent to play at the collegiate level and hopefully Chris, who has excellent potential, will not be last player from Laredo that heads to South Dakota".
Vaswani Soccer Ventures, LLC and Laredo Heat SC Owner Shashi Vaswani added, "The Heat Organization is ecstatic for Chris and his family and we wish him the best". Vaswani also said, "This is the tip of the iceberg and hopefully players within our organization and in the City of Laredo realize that with sacrifice and dedication, their soccer talent can open doors to a better future and a college education either in town or wherever their skill takes them".
