Chivas over Heat


The Laredo Heat suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday night at the Student Activity Complex. Fortunately for the squad, it came at the hands of the Chivas de Guadalajara Special Reserve team in a friendly encounter.The two sides battled to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation. The Chivas outscored the Heat four to three in penalties for the 3-2 victory.

Both squads had their share of fans in the 2,507 present. Chivas jerseys were scattered though out the stadium.

A brawl began in the 69th minute of the contest that left Laredo shorthanded for the remainder of the game. The Heats' Hector "La Gota" Vallejo and Daniel Galvan were ejected along with Chivas' team captain Edgar "Tepa" Solis.

The Heat (4-0, 12 points) return to PDL action Sunday where they look to extend their PDLwinning streak to five. They travel to Dallas to face the Dallas Tornados.

The Heat started most of their original players, with the exception of goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy and mid fielder Ryan Almack.

Jorge Zamora made his first professional start between the posts for Laredo.

He got a taste of real time action right of the bat, as the Chivas' Javier Hernandez one timed a cross in the fourth minute.

Laredo threatened in the 23 minute when Juan De Dios Ibarra's shot bounced of the far post of Guadalajara's goalie Sergio Rodriguez.

The contest featured physical play throughout the game, with both teams keeping the ball grounded.

Laredo tied the game in the 35 minute after Rodriguez' made a save on a Jesus Sanchez shot that bounced to the right near post. The Heat's Ernesto Contreras raced down box and slammed in the tying score.

The Chivas took a 2-1 halftime lead on a manufactured goal by Alvaro Estrada in the 43 minute.

Estrada dribbled the ball to the left side of the box and faked a shot that got both Heat defenders to dive, he proceeded to beat out Zamora for the lead.

Laredo once again scored on a deflection to tie the game. Steve Su's shot was deflected by substitute goalie Lauro Munoz only to land in front of Vallejo for the 2-2 tie.

Su, Dionisio Infante and Carlos Ordaz scored for Laredo, the lone miss was by Ibarra.
