DFW Hands Laredo First Loss of PDL Season
Friday, June 23, 2006 (Laredo, TX):
The DFW Tornados (6 - 4 - 0 / 18 points) handed the previously undefeated Laredo Heat SC (9 - 1 - 0 / 27 points) its first loss of the season in Dallas this evening.
Tornado forward Alex Ivo opened the scoring in the 26th minute and DFW held on to the 1 - 0 lead into halftime.
After some halftime adjustments, Heat midfielder Daniel Galvan equalized the game 20 minutes into the second half in the 65th minute with a well placed shot to even the game up at 1 - 1.
The Heat had exactly one minute to enjoy the goal by Galvan and the tie due to DFW's Robert "R.J." Luevano's shot that got passed by Heat goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy to give the Tornados a 2 - 1 lead that they did not relinquish.
Currently in the Mid-South Division of the Southern Conference, the Heat and Tornados sit 1st and 2nd in the division standings. The Heat leads the season series versus DFW 2 games to one and the Tornados will be visiting the Gateway City on July 15th in the second game of a weekend double header.
The Heat will attempt to get back to their winning ways next weekend on Saturday, July 1st at 8:00 PM when they host the Austin Lightning at the Student Activity Complex located at the corner of Highway 359 and Loop 20.
