Heat Putting Undefeated Record on the Line

Friday, June 2, 2006 (Laredo, TX):

After qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup with a victory over in state rival DFW Tornados last weekend in Dallas, the Mid-South Division leading Laredo Heat (5-0-0 / 15 points) return to the Student Activity Complex, located at Highway 359 and Loop 20, to take on another division opponent, the Austin Lightning (2-2-0 / 6 points). The game is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd and is slated to start at 8:00 PM.

This match will be second visit to Laredo by the Capital City team and if the first game is any indication as to how good this game should be, Laredo soccer fans are in for a treat.

The Lightning return to Laredo after their first visit this year on April 29th and are returning to the Gateway City with a little payback on their minds. The Heat took the first meeting from the Lightning in dramatic fashion with a goal from Heat's Mid-Fielder Jesus "Chuy" Sanchez at the 88th minute of regulation to seal the victory for the Heat by a score of 4 - 3. For his efforts during that game, Sanchez was nominated and named to the Premier Development League's (PDL) first "PDL Team of the Week".

When Sanchez was asked about the upcoming re-match with the Lightning, he said, "I recall that opening league game very vividly." Sanchez continued, "Towards the end of the game, I felt as a team, we had worked very hard during the entire game to come up with a tie at home and I wanted to make sure we got a win." Sanchez concluded, "As an athlete, I've been on the other side of such an outcome and I know that loss did not sit well with Lightning. I'm sure that they have been looking forward to playing us again."

Outside from a potential excellent soccer match, the Laredo Heat would like to remind everyone that at halftime of the Lightning and Heat game, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas, along with the Laredo Heat organization, will be granting Laredo wish child Ashley Macias with her wish to visit Mickey and Friends at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Heat owner and CEO, Shashi Vaswani, mentioned, "What a wonderful opportunity for the soccer fans of Laredo to show their support for the initiatives and philosophy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to show young Ashley how much support she has behind her as she battles her illness."
