April 23, 2005 Marks First Season Game
It's Game Time Laredo.
This weekend, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club opens up the 2005 Season with an Exhibition Game on Saturday, April 23rd at 8:05PM at the Student Activity Center located at Loop 20 and Highway 359 versus the McAllen Pumas. The Pumas are replacing the Rio Grande Valley Coyotes on the Heat schedule to open the season. The McAllen Pumas, like the Rio Grande Valley Coyotes, are a club team from the Rio Grande Valley and participate in the same league as the Coyotes and are currently the top amateur soccer team in the Valley.
The Laredo Heat Soccer Club is prepared and ready to get the 2005 soccer season started. The team played 2 practice games in San Antonio versus two of the top teams in the San Antonio Men's Open League Division on Sunday, April 10, 2005 and won both matches, 6 - 1 and 5 - 0 respectively. On Sunday, April 17th, the Heat traveled to Austin and again played two practice games. In the first game, the Laredo Heat beat St. Edward's University 3 to 0 and in the 2nd game, the Heat tied the University of Texas Varsity Club Team 0 - 0.
Coach Jepsen is excited to get the season started and said, "The team has had two great months of preparation that included a trip to South Padre Island for team bonding plus some excellent beach training". Jepsen added, "The players are eager to get on the field in Laredo and show the Laredo soccer fans that they are prepared to get the season going".
The Heat opens the Premier Development League Regular Season next Saturday, April 30th versus the Austin Lightning. All Laredo Heat Soccer Club Home Games will be played at the Student Activity Center and all games will start 8:05PM.
