Heat wins first PDL game of the 2007 Season

The Laredo Heat kicked off its 2007 Premier Development league season with a 3-0 blanking of the Baton Rouge Capitals on Saturday night at the SAC before 742 fans

.Laredo reached the PDL championship game played here last year.Laredo parlayed an outstanding defensive night with just enough offense.

Three different Heat players scored goals and newcomer goalkeeper Ryan Cooper got the whitewash.

Josh Fender scored in the fifth minute with an assist from Juan de Dios Ibarra. Ibarra also had an assist on a Mark Vega goal in the 79th minute. The insurance tally came in the 85th minute by Hector Vallejo.

Laredo had 18 shots on goal to not a single one for Baton Rouge, which is an expansion team in the PDL. Caps goalie David Winchell recorded 11 saves. Laredo is home again Friday and Saturday against El Paso.
