Friday, May 23, 2008 (Laredo, TX):

The Laredo Heat's (2-1-1 / 7 points) offensive woes continue and today, it resulted in a 1 - 0 loss to the expansion Austin Aztex (3-0-1 / 10 points).

The Heat outshot the Aztex 10 to 6 and had several opportunities to score; however, finding the back of the net continues to be a difficult task for the 2007 PDL Champions.

Seventeen year old Felix Garcia continues to be the Heat's lone threat on top; however, the lack of support from his teammates is starting to wear thin on Head Coach Israel Collazo and his coaching staff especially since players have demonstrated the ability to be scoring threats over the past two months of practice.

The Aztex wasted little time in putting the sphere into the Heat's goal after Heat captain Dany Galvan received his second yellow card of the game in minute 63.

Just a few minutes after Galvan was shown the red card (accumulation of two yellow cards in one game), Aztex forward Jamie Watson received a pass from his counterpart up front, Marcel Uriarte, at the 67 minute and he scored the lone goal of the game for the Aztex that proved to be enough for the win and a crucial three points in the Mid-Division standings for the Capital City club.

Things didn't get better for the Heat as midfielder Raul Quinones was also awarded an automatic red card by center referee Matt Mechler as the game was winding down. At the 88th minute, Quinones was shown the red card by Mechler for shoving an Aztex player during a dead ball situation.

Once again, Heat net minder Ryan Cooper had an excellent game and after four matches has a Goal Against Average (GOA) of .025 (one goal allowed in four games); however, Cooper and the Heat's stingy defense can only continue to fend off opponents for so long and the group of midfielders and forwards for the Heat are going to start putting much more pressure on opponents defenses and more importantly, finding a way to put points on the board.

Next week, the Heat will be visiting the north Texas metroplex of Dallas / Ft. Worth on Friday, May 30th and unfortunately will be without the services of both captain Dany Galvan and Quinones, two players that are integral part of Coach Collazo's game plans. All this due to the red cards they were issued.

With the loss to the Aztex, the Heat is now officially eliminated from advancing into the U.S. Open Cup for this season. The Aztex are currently the front runners to represent the Mid-South Division in the U.S. Open Cup but they must wait for the outcome of the Mississippi Brilla's games this weekend in Houston and DFW.
