Heat Season Ends in Loss to Orlando City U-23’s

Ocala, FL (Friday, July 20, 2012): The Laredo Heat ended their 2012 Premier Development League (PDL) season in the opening round of the Southern Conference Championship in Ocala, FL with a loss to the Orlando City U-23’s by a score of 2 – 1.

The Heat went down 1 – 0 in the 32nd minute when Orlando’s Nicolas Russo found the back of the net off a cross and then eight minutes later the game got a little more difficult for the Gateway City club.

The Heat’s Juan de Dios Ibarra received a direct red card in the 40th minute that put the team a man down for the remainder f the game.

Laredo went into the half down 1 – 0 but in the opening minutes of the second half, Orlando City scored again to make the score 2 – 0 when Drew Helm received a nicely placed cross and got the sphere passed Heat net minder Emmanuel Frias and with being down a player it looked as if Laredo’s night was going to be over early but in the 53rd minute Orlando committed a foul inside the 18 yard box on Laredo’s Hector Vallejo and the Heat were awarded a penalty kick that Vallejo converted to make the score 2 – 1.

For the remainder of the game, Laredo possessed the ball and had several opportunities to tie the game, most especially a laser by substitute Juan Lozoya that screamed just right of the goal post but it was not to be for the Heat at the end of the day.

After a successful regular season that saw Laredo win a fourth straight division title it was a tough pill to swallow losing so early into the playoffs.
