It was a Premier Development League final that went down the wire as Laredo and Kitsap battled for the league’s top prize at Bremerton Memorial Stadium in Kitsap, Wash. on Saturday night.

But in the end, an 11th minute strike by Kitsap proved to be more than enough, as the Heat fell 1-0 to the Pumas.

Appearing in their fourth final in the last six years, Laredo could not bring home national title No. 2, as Kitsap’s high pressure often had the Heat searching for answers they never could find.

Kitsap is the only professional club in the 64-team PDL, which means all of their players get paid.

Robby Christner’s strike in the 11th minute off a cross essentially sealed the fate of Laredo, which was without one of its top strikers in Felix Garcia, as well as Danny Galvan due to a pulled hamstring in Friday’s 4-1 semifinal win over No. 1 seed Long Island.

Galvan is a team captain and crucial to the Heat’s attack, directing its attack on the field.

The Heat had an opportunity to tie in stoppage time late in the second half, but Greg Mulamba’s shot was on point but hit the post.

Laredo had more than a few good chances in the second half, but never could put one through.

The Heat finished with an overall record of 12-4-2 for 35 points.

They closed a spectacular 2011 campaign in which they won the Mid-South Division title for the third straight year and brought a couple of premier international squads for friendlies in the Gateway City.
