The Laredo Heat salvaged a two-game road trip on Saturday night, dominating West Texas 3-0 in Midland.

The win came after a tough defeat to Mid-South Division leader Chivas El Paso on Friday by a score of 1-0.

The win over the Sockers gave the Heat a split coming home for Friday’s game against New Orleans at the TAMIU Soccer Complex at 8:15 p.m.

The Sockers (3-8-0, 9 points) had no shot at Laredo (8-3-0, 24 points).

Esteban Bayona scored in compensation time of the first half.

The Heat’s top striker added another compensation goal at the end of the second half.

Wayo Gonzalez scored in the 84th minute on a header that essentially sealed the deal. Luis de la Vega assisted on the Heat’s final two goals.

Five games remain in the Premier Development League’s regular season. Heading into Saturday’s action, Chivas El Paso had 25 points (8-3-1), four more than Laredo, heading into its match against expansion Rio Grande Valley in El Paso.

Laredo is securely in second place in the Mid-South.

Chivas El Paso leads the season series against the Heat 2-1.

The two clubs meet in the regular season finale in El Paso on July 23.
