The Laredo Heat and Chivas El Paso Patriots have been battling for the Premier Development League’s Mid-South Division crown all season.

Friday night, Chivas managed to get another upper hand.

Enrique Cervantes’ penalty kick in the 69th minute earned a 1-0 victory for the Patriots in El Paso.

With the win, the Patriots improved upon their division-leading record to go to 8-3-1, 25 points.

El Paso also now has a 2-1 series record against Laredo this season and has won both in El Paso.

Laredo, though with two fewer games played, fell to 7-3-0, 21 points. It is still comfortably in second place in the Mid-South.

The Heat conclude their two-game road swing tonight in Midland against West Texas.

The Sockers were defeated by expansion Rio Grande Valley 1-0 at home on Friday.

West Texas stands at 3-7-0, 9 points, on the season.

Laredo returns home Friday against New Orleans at the TAMIU Soccer Complex at 8:15 p.m.
