Heat Announce Pre-Season Game in Frisco, TX

LAREDO, Texas (Tuesday, April 12, 2011): The Laredo Heat Soccer Club will be heading to the DFW Metroplex the last week of April to challenge the FC Dallas Reserve Squad of Major League Soccer (MLS) at the beautiful Pizza Hut Park Soccer Complex in Frisco, TX. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26th with kick-off set for 11:00 AM.

Each team in the MLS consists of 30 players on its master roster and all 30 are eligible for the 18 player game day roster; however, not all of the 18 players on a game day roster get an opportunity to play at times due to the game day playing climate and coaching decisions during the match.

Because of this, the MLS once again began to utilize their reserve team system in 2011 for all their franchises in order that the 12 players not called up for the game day roster and the few players that did not get to see the field during the game get valuable playing time that only comes from game action.

“In essence, though they may be called reserve team members, our team (Laredo Heat) will be facing an FC Dallas Reserve Team that will consist of professional players that see MLS game action week in and week out and will be playing in front of their technical staff trying to impress them for more playing time,” mentioned Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.

“Our coaching staff headed by Israel Collazo will treat this match as an actual PDL game since we will be opening up our regular season play within ten days of this game in Frisco”.

Vela concluded, “I am hoping that from this game, we can continue a business relationship with the FC Dallas organization and just maybe we can have them play in Laredo one day in front of our home crowd versus us or another MLS team in order that may grow their brand in South Texas”.

FC Dallas is the defending MLS Western Conference Champion and Columbian midfielder David Ferreira is the reigning Major League Soccer MVP. FC Dallas is coached by Schellas Hyndman, former SMU Head Coach (1984 – 2008). Hyndman is currently in his fourth year leading FC Dallas.

Start of the 2011 PDL Regular Season

The Heat opens up the 2011 PDL Regular Season at home versus the expansion Rio Grande Valley Grandes on Friday, May 6th. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex, the home of the Laredo Heat. Plenty of family orientated festivities have been planned for the opening match so stay tuned for more details to come from the Heat front office.
