Three Newcomers Sign with the Laredo Heat

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 - Three Newcomers Sign with the Laredo Heat

(Laredo, TX):

After losing a game in the playoffs for the first time in four years that was not the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) Championship Game, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club found themselves looking for answers to make positive improvements for the 2010 PDL Campaign.

Outside from the obvious injuries that riddled the Gateway City club towards the end of the 2009 season, the Heat coaching staff and administration knew that the team needed to score more after having tied a total of eight games during the regular season and become stronger on the backline.

A few weeks ago, the Heat took steps to remedy their concerns by signing three individuals, one of whom is very familiar to Heat fans and two new players that will be able to contribute immediately.

Hector “Gota” Vallejo, a native of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and a recent Major Indoor Soccer League Champion with Monterrey based club La Raza, will once again be joining the Heat in 2010 (pending United States Soccer Federation approval) after having played in Laredo in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, Vallejo was a solid contributor in the Heat’s championship season. Vallejo is a speedy mid-fielder that has the ability to be a game changer.

Also joining the Heat is Vallejo’s teammate with La Raza this past season, Angel “Bambi” Hernandez. Hernandez is a strong, tall defender that also has experience in Mexico’s First and Second Divisions having played with the Rayados organization in Monterrey. Hernandez is also currently on standby to join the Heat because his International Clearance in also pending United States Soccer Federation (USSF) final approval.

Yamet Perez, a new face to Laredo but a very experienced defender from Mexico has also joined the Laredo Heat for what will hopefully be a very formidable defense. The 26 year old Perez is a native of Mexico City, DF and played for Atlante in Mexico’s First Division as well as several “Primera A” clubs in his native country. Perez last played in Queretaro in 2009 and helped that club move up from “Primera A” to the First Division. Perez was also a member of Mexico’s Under 20 National Team in 2003. Perez, like Vallejo and Hernandez, is pending USSF final approval in order to become a roster player for the Heat.

“With the addition of Yamet and Angel, we have reinforced our backline with a wealth of experience”, said Heat Owner, Shashi Vaswani.

“Hector on the other hand will give us what we need on the offensive side of the ball to hopefully create some serious problems for our opposing defenders”, concluded Vaswani.

The Laredo Heat opens up their 2010 PDL Regular Season on Friday, April 30, 2010 versus the Rio Grande Valley Bravos at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.
