Heat Set to Host Pre-Season Game - Thursday, March 25, 2010

Thursday, March 25, 2010 (Laredo, TX):

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club will be hosting the United States Soccer Federation’s (USSF) Division II Professional League Team Austin Aztex on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex. Kick-off for this engagement is set for 7:30 PM.

The USSF Division II Professional League is a newly formed professional soccer division in the United States that is under the direction of the United States Soccer Federation and has a total of 12 teams playing from the new North American Soccer League (NASL) and the United Soccer Leagues (USL) USL 1 Division. This 12 team league is competing just one level below Major League Soccer (MLS).

“A few weeks ago we received a call from Aztex Head Coach Adrian Heath asking if there was a possibility for his team to travel down to Laredo to get a game in before his season got started and due to our business and competitive relationship with the Aztex franchise we were more than happy to help them out”, said Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.

“While we (the Laredo Heat) do not have all of our university players available to us yet and having only been in pre-season camp for about two and half weeks, the players that we do have with us are very excited at the opportunity of getting to play in this game”.

Vela added, “While we still have time before we open up our Premier Development League (PDL) regular season on Friday, April 30th versus the Rio Grande Valley Bravos here in Laredo, this game tomorrow will give our entire coaching staff a fantastic read on the players we are contemplating on signing”.

“On the flip side, Coach Heath and the entire Aztex organization will also be able to see how newly signed players like Maxwell Griffin, a former All Pac-10 (UCLA) performer his senior year, interact with their veterans and players on the edge of making the team can demonstrate why they need to be signed”.

Vela concluded, “Like I mentioned before, our players currently training are looking forward to the game and getting away, at least for this week, from the rigors of their pre-season conditioning program. The game should be a good show for everyone present”.

While Heat fans are invited to attend the game between the visiting Austin Aztex and the Laredo Heat, the match is considered a “closed gate” game meaning that there will be no admission charged for entry to the game, no concession sales or any other amenities associated with a regular exhibition or regular season home game for the Heat.
