Heat Announces Schedule for 2009

February 5, 2009

The United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced the 2009 Premier Development League (PDL) Regular Season schedules for all 68 teams competing this upcoming year.

The Laredo Heat will open up the 2009 Regular Season hoping for an unprecedented fourth trip to the USL PDL Championship Game away from home versus the expansion Rio Grande Valley Bravos on Saturday, May 2nd.

Soon after, the Heat will play their first home game of the season versus the defending Mid-South Division Champs, the Austin Aztex on Thursday, May 7th at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex. The Heat will play eight home and eight away games during the 2009 PDL Regular Season.

General Admission Ticket prices for the 2009 PDL Regular Season will be $5.00 and in continuing its tradition of making Heat games family friendly and affordable, kids 12 and under will still continue to get free admission.

“With the new divisional alignment and new member clubs Rio Grande Valley Bravos and West Texas United Sockers from Midland, our Mid-South Division will have a completely new look for the upcoming season”, said Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.

Vela added, “In 2009, we will not play Baton Rouge (LA), the Mississippi Brilla or New Orleans. All three teams have now been relocated to the Southeast Division of the Southern Conference; however, if any of them make the playoffs and we do as well, there is that possibility that old rivalries can be taken up again on the pitch”.

“As we do before we start every season, Coach Collazo and his staff have been given their goals for the season by our owner (Shashi Vaswani) and first things first, let get ourselves in position to make the playoffs and then look forward to making noise in the post-season”, concluded Vela.
