Friday, May 1, 2009 (Laredo, TX):

After naming eleven players to its Master Roster, mostly returning core group players, the Laredo Heat added more talent, including several young players from the Laredo area.

The players named this week by the Laredo Heat are:

- Soamy Bautista: defender from Texas A&M International University (NCAA Division II)

- Esteban Bayona: forward from The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio (NCAA Division II)

- Lucas Dyer: goalkeeper from St. Louis University (NCAA Division I)

- Eusebio Garcia: forward from United South High School (Laredo, Texas)

- Aldo Hernandez: defender from John B. Alexander High School (Laredo, Texas)

- Adam Kelemet: midfielder from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY (NCAA Division I)

- Juan Lara: defender from John B. Alexander High School (Laredo, Texas)

- Josh Maley: forward/midfielder from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY (NCAA Division I)

- Alfredo Ramos: defender from San Augustine High School (Laredo, Texas)

- Pedro Ramos: defender, returning starter from last season

- Julio Vasquez: midfielder, returning from last season

“We got busy with player registrations the week prior to our first scheduled game versus the expansion Rio Grande Valley Bravos in order to have a complete and deep bench”, said Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.

“Coach Collazo and his staff have been very diligent in trying to complement the initial players signed with the second wave of signings. It has been a little more difficult this pre-season for our coaching staff because two keys injuries just last week to Dionisio Infante and Erick Acevedo, two players that were being counted on to produce on the field immediately”.

Vela concluded, “Regardless of the injuries, Coach Collazo and rest of the players know the game plan and goals for the season and with the game in the Rio Grande Valley postponed due to precautions set for the spread of H1N1 flu virus, the injured players get a little more time to rest before lacing up the cleats”.

The Laredo Heat Soccer Club is now set to open up the 2009 PDL Regular Season at home on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex versus the defending 2008 Mid-South Division Champion Austin Aztex. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.

Heat Fun Facts:

Recently signed defender Aldo Hernandez from John B. Alexander High School in Laredo, TX, was also named a Texas High School Football First Team All-State Wide Receiver after his stellar Fall 2008 gridiron performances.
