Heat Drop Heartbreaker in Midland

Heat Drop Heartbreaker in Midland

May 16, 2009

A penalty kick awarded to the West Texas United Sockers in the 23rd minute for a handball in the box and converted by Giber Becerra was all that the home team needed to hold off the visiting Laredo Heat’s effort throughout the game.

The Heat possessed the ball the majority of the game and once again could not find the offense to put the ball in the back of the net. Opportunities for the Heat were not in short supply but the Sockers defense held its own against the defending PDL Southern Conference Champions.

The Heat will have to out this defeat behind them quickly as they take on the Mid-South Division leaders, the El Paso Patriots tomorrow Saturday at Patriot Stadium.

Heat Injury Update

The Heat lost Albert "Chiti" Escovar in the first half of game against the West Texas United Sockers due to a hamstring injury. Preliminary reports show that Escovar will not play Saturday night versus the El Paso Patriots and will be examined on Monday upon the teams return to Laredo to determine the extend the injury. Escovar scored two of the three goals in the Heat's opening match against the Austin Aztex last week.

Also nursing a leg injury is Soamy Bautista who did not see any action against the Sockers. Bautista is day to day and Coach Collazo and the training staff will determine his status for the game versus El Paso at game time. Bautista scored the other goal versus the Austin Aztex.
