Match Preview: Heat SC Visiting Houston

May 29, 2009

Friday, May 29, 2009 (Laredo, TX):

Just eight days removed from hosting the Houston Leones (0 – 3 – 1 / 1 Point) at the TAMIU Soccer Complex, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (3 – 1 – 1 / 10 Points) is heading to East Texas to visit the Leones on their home turf. In Laredo, the Heat defeated the Bayou City club by a score of 1 – 0.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Soccer World Center in Rosenberg, Texas. Kick-off is set for 5:00 PM.

Not having lost during the past three games, the Heat are hoping for a quick start against the Leones this time around in order to set the pace of the game early and force the Leones to come out to play and open up the field; however, with kick-off set for a late afternoon start and knowing that the temperature and humidity in the Houston area usually run high, the Gateway City club will probably need to use all six substitutes allowed and hydrate themselves well in order to accomplish their goal.

Though the Leones currently sit in last place in the Mid-South Division, the incentive to beat the Heat if definitely there for them since they know Laredo club struggled at home against them and what better way to get the first win of the season than by beating the team that has represented the division in the league final the past three seasons.

Heat Notes:

The Heat added another Laredo soccer prep star and Heat ’92 team member this week. Jose Eduardo Gonzalez, better known as “Wayo” played his high school soccer this past Spring with the Alexander Bulldogs and led the Heat’s Under 17 Select Team to the South Texas Youth Soccer Association Presidents Cup (Division One) State Tournament in Houston last weekend. “Wayo” joins recently added Heat ’92 goalkeeper Rodrigo “Rorro” Avila on the Heat’s PDL Master Roster.

Starting right back Erick Acevedo will not be making the trip to Houston this weekend because he aggravated his hamstring this past Monday in Hidalgo versus the Rio Grande Valley Bravos. The reoccurring injury should only sideline Acevedo for this week only. He should be able to return to action versus El Paso next Friday here in Laredo. Acevedo played with the Leones last year.
