Heat Dominate Rio Grande Valley, Win 4 - 2

June 29, 2009

The Rio Grande Valley Bravos third place standing in the Mid-South Division of the Premier Development League (PDL) was short lived.

On Saturday, June 27th, the Valley team dominated the Austin Aztex U-23’s in Hidalgo, Texas by beating them by a score of 5 – 1 and took over the third place standing in the division from the Laredo Heat but on Sunday, June 28th, the Heat came into Valley View Stadium and took home three very important points to regain the third spot from the Bravos by taking care of business away from home and beating the Bravos by a score of 4 – 2.

The Heat came into the game missing three starters, Greg Mulamba, Luis Reyes and Erick Acevedo (Mulamba and Acevedo were suspended for this match and Reyes was nursing an injury) but showed true grit by battling a tough Bravos squad determined to beat the Gateway City club at their home turf.

The game was actually played beautifully by both sides.

The scoring got started early by the Heat when Dany Galvan took a very nice cross from Juan de Dios Ibarra to put the Heat up 1 – 0 in the 18th minute.

A mere eight minutes later, RGV striker Salvador Luna equalized the game at 1 – 1 when he took a pass to get the ball passed Heat goalkeeper Ryan Cooper.

After that score by the Bravos, the Heat took control of things for the remainder of the game.

In the 31st minute, Juan de Dios Ibarra once again found a streaking Nicho Infante in front of the Bravos goalkeeper. Infante wasted no time putting a header in to give the Heat a 2 – 1 lead that they took into the half.

In the 48th, defender Soamy Bautista found a loose ball in front of the goal after a corner kick that he was able to nail into the back of the net giving the Heat a 3 – 1 lead that they would not relinquish.

Bautista once again netted another goal in the 77th minute to give the Heat their fourth goal of the game.

In the 90th minute, the Bravos Luna was again able to find the goal after getting a pass from Tomas Banda for the home side to give them their two goals for the evening to end the match.

“This was a good win for us especially away from home in front of an energetic crowd and a very good Rio Grande Valley side that had just beaten one of the top teams in the division the night before”, said Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.

Vela concluded, “This should be the start of a frantic pace towards the playoffs for everyone in the division since we are all now entering the last month of league play. We are certainly hoping to be there making noise these last four games”.
